At the Okanagan International Festival of Animation, we know how challenging it is to be an animation, visual effects or digital media student. You are always focused on doing your best work in order to showcase your abilities, working on bringing your creative ideas to life, and figuring out how to afford the best software so your talent can truly shine.
All students who enter our Signal Film Competition will receive a six-month temporary license of Toon Boom’s latest Harmony Premium software. And the first place winner will receive a license for a year.
Now that we have your attention, please see the information below on the Signal Film Competition. Don’t forget to register for the competition – you need to fill out the Intention to Submit Form by November 1, 2017.
The Okanagan International Festival of Animation (OkIFA) will hold a Student Signal Film Competition for its inaugural 2018 festival. The latest version of Toon Boom Harmony Premium software will be provided to student participants, courtesy of Toon Boom Animation. The winning one-minute signal film* will be shown prior to each feature screened during the Student Day screenings. The second, third and fourth place student signal films will be screened once during that day.
The winning signal film will also be used on OkIFA’s website prior to and during the festival. All entries will be showcased on the OkIFA website until the 2019 festival.
*A signal film is one that is short and that plays at the start of other films as an introduction to the screenings.
To be eligible, all students must abide by the competition criteria below:
Grand Prize – 1st Place Student Signal Film
OkIFA recognizes the efforts and financial needs of animation students and, in partnership with Toon Boom Animation, will award six-month temporary licenses to each student who enters the competition. A permanent license of Toon Boom’s latest Harmony Premium software will be awarded to the winning student. If the winning film is produced by more than one person, each person on that film’s team will win a permanent license (up to seven licenses in total for the winning team).
The winning student/program will also be announced via news release and social media.
2nd, 3rd and 4th Place
The signal films of the runner-ups will be showcased in succession and their placing mentioned at the 2018 festival during the Student Day screenings.
